Catchy title eh!! Remembering is something that one cherishes when you get old like me....smiley face inserted !
But on a truly serious note it is indeed a day of Remembrance, and I am daily grateful to live in this country and the freedoms that are ours because of the bravery and lives of so many women and men.
I really am sad that our world continues to be at war, and that we do not learn from our history.
We had some amazing talks at church yesterday that spoke to the greatest sacrifice for freedom, the life of Jesus Christ. Through his life, his sacrifice, and love for us we received the great gift of the Atonement, indeed eternal life. Many today continue to give of their lives for the love and freedom of others. Thank you.
Each talk touched my heart...Elisa Hodder...the voice of our wonderful youth; Caverly Smith, a wise and gentle lady.....and Todd Smith, spoke so deeply from his heart.....each reminded us of the need for the Savior...and expressed their gratitude for Him and many who continue to give for us.
Second thing to Remember.....November 8th was my Mom's birthday.....while we didn't have a cake, presents, or a party....we do always remember the great gift that she was for our family, her sacrifices, and her love. Miss her so much.
Third remembrance...had a great visit with the Allreds last night. ( and Karen and Olivia) I met them ( the Allreds) in Calgary, and got to welcome them here to Halifax. Dad, Tanner is an architect student and his sweet wife Jenny is super mom to their three adorable daughters....Gwen, Lily, and baby June. Lots of chatter, playtime, eats, and laughter. Thanks folks...nice to have you here.
Gwen took her dad's photo...that's cute June tucked in his lap.
Look at these giggly kiddies
Daily Yummy Remembrance, of late .....thinking of travel with Laura and Jeremy and meeting his lovely Aunt Mavis and learned to make 50 sec. muffins in a mug ****************** |
Now, one last Remembrance...I live in a very special neighborhood in Halifax. During the war there was an airport, and sheds for repairing airplanes right where my house is. Following the war, the land was used for residential construction, and homes for military personal were built here. Years later, non military families could build and move here. The unique thing here is that our streets are named for airmen who gave their lives in the war. I grew up just blocks from this neighborhood, attended the school, Westmount, as a child, moved here 31 years ago, and retired from my teaching career after teaching at the school, Westmount. The staff and students always did special programs for Remembrance Day...even one year renaming the school hallways after these airmen. Photos of the men are hung in the hallways with their personal history. The special needs playground beside the school is designed to represent an airfield. This year the following appeared in my neighborhood.
LEST WE FORGET
Grateful to live here, and love my country!!

Loving Autumn and it's beautiful colors |
I have been loving Autumn too, I just hope it dries up a bit so I can enjoy some crunchy leaves... :)
ReplyDeleteThat is a great history lesson for me, I never knew why those streets had those men's names, now I know :)
You are so wonderful Jackie! Thank you for being such an example of love and service to me :)
